Big news: my new spy thriller, On the Knife Edge, is at Maine Authors Publishing and will be out soon--well, I'll let you know when. Here's the opening scene:

PROLOGUE

“Just after dawn broke on October 1, 2015, the container ship sank off the Bahamas, the worst U.S. maritime disaster in three decades. They found the ship in deep water, three miles down. The only two survivors—second mate Melanie Ricker, and a man called Ryan.

Just ten months later, the two survivors were on a mountain trail in the Maine North Woods. After crossing Mount Katahdin’s perilous Knife Edge, Melanie grabbed the Glock from Ryan’s holster and pointed it at his head.”

From The Greenville Times.

All this I knew, even before reading reporter Jud Jenkins’ big scoop, which he got from Melanie. You see, I’m a Maine Guide from Greenville up in the Maine North Woods, and Melanie’s my best friend.. She’d told me all about Ryan, that she’d loved him long ago; about how he joined the Marines and became a sniper; and, later, an assassin for the CIA—he even had a pseudonym, Sergey.

Ryan a/k/a Sergey had pursued her all the way to Katahdin, where he tried to kidnap her. I remember thinking he must have loved her. And I thought she still loved him. It was my husband, Maine Warden Sam Morse, who shot him. I asked myself, how could this have happened?

It took me a while to figure it out . . .
